May through October Guided Kayak Trips– Westmoreland State Park.  Saturday from 10 to noon Sunday from 11-1pm.  Paddle the historic Potomac River with an interpretive naturalist guide, glide by the majestic Horsehead Cliffs towering over two hundred feet.  Observe marine Miocene strata that date back millions of years. Imagine the awe and wonder of Captain John Smith and his crew as they sailed up the Patowomeck,(river of Swan) 400 years ago, watching for the villages of Native Americans. Look for bald eagles, great blue herons, king fishers, and cliff swallows that are flying and feeding. Stretch your legs on Fossil Beach and search for evidence of the past. You can even keep what you find.  Bring drinking water, extra clothing, and water shoes/sandals. 26	A Washington Christmas.  10 am-7 pm  George Washington loved music, dance and festive occasions. Like other colonials, the Washington family celebrated the 12 days of Christmas which begins on Christmas Day. The Memorial House will be decorated for the holidays and filled with colonial music. All day the plantation will be busy with demonstrations and activities performed by costumed interpreters. Free admission. (804) 224-1732
